Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, the focus is on one-on-one sessions between a client and a licensed therapist. The expectations from individual therapy can vary depending on the goals and therapeutic approach, but generally include the following:
Confidentiality and Trust: One of the core expectations is that the therapy sessions are confidential, which allows the individual to speak openly and honestly without fear of judgment. Trust is essential for the therapeutic process.
Personal Commitment: The individual is expected to actively participate in therapy by discussing their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Being open and engaged helps the therapist understand the client’s needs and tailor the treatment plan accordingly.
Goal Setting: Individuals are typically encouraged to set personal goals for therapy. These goals may relate to managing mental health issues (like anxiety, depression, or trauma), improving relationships, or enhancing self-awareness.
Active Participation: The therapist may provide exercises, coping strategies, or homework assignments for the client to work on outside of sessions. It’s expected that individuals will commit to these tasks to improve progress and achieve therapeutic goals.
Honesty and Self-Reflection: Therapy requires a certain level of self-reflection. The individual is encouraged to be honest with themselves and the therapist about their feelings, behaviors, and experiences.
Openness to Change: Therapy can involve learning new coping mechanisms, developing different perspectives, or challenging old patterns of thinking and behavior. Being open to this process can help facilitate personal growth.
Consistent Attendance: Regular attendance at scheduled therapy sessions is important for making progress. Consistency helps build momentum in therapy and ensures that individuals can continue to work toward their goals.
Respect and Boundaries: Mutual respect between the client and therapist is essential. Clients are expected to respect the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship, while therapists will also maintain professional boundaries to foster a safe space for healing.
Ultimately, the goal of individual therapy is to support the individual in overcoming challenges, building coping skills, and achieving a better understanding of themselves in a safe, supportive environment.Self-Pay Rates
