Ms. Charmaine Simmons
I have over 16 years of experience helping individuals overcome barriers and reach their highest potential through therapy and coaching. Over the years, I have worked in various outpatient, residential, and private practice settings, providing individual, family, and group therapy and psychological testing. Through my experiences, I have developed a passion for working with high-functioning adults who struggle with people-pleasing perfectionism and feelings of low self-worth, often stemming from unresolved childhood trauma and high-functioning depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
I use a collaborative approach with my clients, which includes mindfulness, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and somatic therapies. It is helpful to help clients become more aware of their conscious and subconscious patterns to re-wire their thinking to align with what they truly want. As Carl Jung says, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.”
My innate compassion for collective wellness fuels my motivation for this line of work by helping individuals to heal and thrive. When we take the time to care for ourselves, we can better care for others around us and spread goodness worldwide. Therefore, self-care is not an option, but it is necessary for our survival.
I received my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Therapy from Richmont Graduate University and a B.S. in Community Health Education/Healthcare Management from Clark Atlanta University, both in Atlanta, Georgia. I am licensed as a professional counselor in Texas (LPC # 75380).
I enjoy practicing self-care, meditation, yoga, and journaling outside of work. I also love to spend leisure time with my loved ones, curl up with a good Netflix series, take hip-hop step classes, and travel.
