MS. AMANDA VARNON…
received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Truman State University where she competed on a national championship-winning swim team and still holds a NCAA record. She went on to complete her Masters in Arts in Clinical Psychology at Houston Baptist University. Her education gave her a strong understanding of the mechanics and science of cognitive behavioral therapy and an appreciation for psychodynamic therapy. She has used those theories throughout her career to address the impact of her clients’ childhood experiences on their thoughts and behaviors.
Ms. Varnon has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor for the past decade and a half with clients who are grappling with a variety of circumstances. She has helped clients navigate mood disorders, personality disorders, and a range of crisis situations, including basic communication difficulties, infidelity, long-term incarceration, and suicidal ideations. Her career has led her to work with adolescents, adults, and couples, from an array of backgrounds, who are struggling with life's obstacles.
She believes therapy should be a mix of hard work and laughter. She finds the establishment of rapport to be the most important aspect of a successful therapy relationship and places an emphasis on knowing the client understands she's on their side. She also has an extensive background in assessments which among other things includes achievement testing, intelligence testing, personality testing, assessment of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity and Competency.
